New built Spitfires

Hi all,

No I am not starting the whole discussion about provenance etc again but another thing.

Since several new P-51's are being built today as well as FW190's etc I was wondering the following:

Why hasn't there been anyone ordering a completely newly built Spitfire (any mark) without using a known serial. Or building a production run of some ten or so airframes without any serials (no provenance at all). Is this less interesting historically speaking or what?

You could for instance order a completely new Mk XIV, paint it red with a civilian registration on the sides and impress the crowds anywhere you would land, without having to bother about a combat history but flying a warbird anyway.

Would there be any market for such a proposition or is this just utterly nonsense?
