There is no cost saving building new rather than restoring. Indeed the best advice has always been that the cheapest route to owning/flying a Spitfire is buy an airworthy example.

For the record, and I have heard this MANY times the same goes for the Mustang.......

The caveat is that there are people out there that enjoy the restoration/parts chasing/ and physical activity involved in restoring such ladies...........!! I can equate with that --
