I understand that wear and tear sets the value down a bit but I think that You exaggerate a wee bit.
"Threadbare interior" after a few houndred hours, well, then it was lousy quality from the start, wasn?t it?
I?ve read somewhere that tyres need replacing every fifty hours or something like that, which put them in the expendable category.

I alway thought that buying an airworthy warbird means that You pay all of the bills but don?t have all the fun. The rebuild process is part of it and, as You point out, all of it for some people.
I thought however that the revenue from selling the completed aircraft was meant to finance the next ...... and perhaps even provide the means of living.
