The cost often (read "generally always") goes up once you actually start digging into a project and you discover all this other stuff that also has to be done that at first was thought to be sound. Even something as straight-forward as recovering a Piper Cub, you ALWAYS discover more work that has to, or at the very least should be done to the airplane, once the old fabric comes off. This can range from a handful of control pulleys that have to be replaced to two or three pieces of tubing that have to be changed out, to replacing a spar that was thought to be in fine shape to......the list is long.

Airplanes like and consume money - more than women, even! It's just a fact.
