Well prototype in the sense that it was the first Spitfire that Charles Church commissioned Dick Melton to construct. It was going to be a Mk IX initally and part way through build was reconfigured as a mk V. A Westlands constuctors plate was sourced from Australia and from it a nomimal estimate of the RAF serial made. There was not one rivet of the original EE606 on the machine. This was to be the first of a squadron of Spitfires that Charles Church had planned.
