I think you miss the point

Most warbird enthusiasts agree that if we want to continue to see warbird fly we concur that there has to be an acceptance of component replacement thorughout the continued life of the aircraft, even if major structure is replaced.

What I cannot agree is that when someone goes out and retrieves a wreck, with provenance, expending time, money and effort that it is the same as someone simply supplying a dataplate and then, when their aircraft is complete, putting it up to represent something it clearly is not.

For the record I don't think you will find anyone bitching about 'replicas'. Those building genuine replicas don't hide the fact.

I think the guy that goes out and retrieves something and restores it, no matter how much of the original has to be replaced, beats the straightforward data plate job hands down. Otherwise why go to said expense?

My opinions on this are well known, and not everyone agrees which is fine. This is what forums are for.

To digress slightly, what I find more objectionable is that when someone goes the whole nine yards, goes to the trouble of presenting the viewing public with an aircraft as historic (and AUTHENTIC) as the Chino Warbirds A-36A currently being put into flying condition for 'Legends at Duxford someone comes on here and bitches about the bloody paint scheme! Let's just recognise the sheer effort and determination to get this rare bird here in the first place and put it all into perspective. Personally I can't wait to see it take to the air.
