Perhaps I phrased that wrongly Tony - indeed it is a favourite subject. However, my real point is that a complete, ground up restoration i.e. a jacked up data plate is not the same as an aircraft that is born from a wreck no matter how much of that structure is replaced.

As I have said many times before my concern are those aircraft that are 'marketed' by their owners as something they are not. Right now, if you look closely at the warbird population as a whole there are not that many out there. And I do this for a living!

Should we really tell those collectors and enthusiasts that do go to the trouble of recovering wrecks upon which they base a restoration not to bother?

As I have said many many times before I have no gripe with replicas. Many are commendable efforts and when someone gets off their backsides and does something like that it should be applauded. If you want to see a real warbird go to Duxford and see the A-36 (I know I am biased) -- did the owner waste his time recovering it to restore it? I don't think so.

there are so many different factors it is difficult to express them all on this board.

That really is my last word on this board. Perhaps it is time to go to print with some ideas that will hopefully better explain why I think it is important that we recognise the spirit in which things are done when someone restores a wreck. INFORMED debate cannot be beaten.
