Musings....

Firstly... I am finally reading the March 2001 issue of Aeroplane.. (the delay is due to my discovering the Harry Potter set of books). Anyway I digress.

1) In Paul's column he says he has spoken to Peter Vacher about Hurricane Mk I - R4118. Which was discovered in Induia in 1983 and was returned to the UK last year. Anyway Paul says he reckons this was the 'deal of the decade' but for ?27,000 to buy a genuine Battle of Britain veteran I reckon this is the deal of the century!. I do realise it will cost a lot more to put her back together again at Hawker Restorations! BTW Paul - Have you any photos of her??? I would love to see what she looked like!

2) I saw Battle Stations on Channel 4 last night. Good to see nice colour shots of groups of Thunderbolts and Mustangs in formation. Was that Rob Lamplough's mustang used in the filming??

3) Also saw the video of Salvage Squad from Monday when they restored a Gyro-Copter. They had an interesting arguement re: markings. One guy wanted to 'improve' the original markings to make them more pleasing to the eyse. The other two said 'NO' we are restoring to the orginal paint scheme when it made its first flight! - That is waht restoration was all about (the two won - I am glad to say).

However, the fact that they replaced about 90% of the structure with NEW build stuff (including to me the m,ain member and cockpit pod, either of which would give me the 'ID) was not mentioned! And so how much was that a re-creation rather than restoration agruement! That old chesnut again.. Which leads me nicely back to Paul Coggan's column. Where he said that he as coming to terms with using the designation of historic aircraft cars in respect historic aircraft!
