I agree entirely with what you say Paul, I hope you include me in the "constructive comments" bracket on this subject considering what I have said before on this subject, and my very obvious cryptic, crytical and cynical "wise-cracks" about data-plates and all that. I might go a different way about it than you and others but I hope you can see how I really feel about this kind of thing.

To me they are not just aircraft, they are icons of history, huge numbers of brave people fought and died in them, the WWII types which you and me like most were involved in the biggest world-changing and earth-shattering war in the whole of the world's history, so anyone messing with the history of such historic artifacts deserves the condemnation of everyone who has ever had a concern for genuine un-revised history.

I recall the few times in your WW editorials when you would say you had had letters from certain people telling you to stop with all those "boring serial numbers", you never said who these people were of course but I presume that these same kind of people would NOT be supporting a Classification System in any shape or form, no matter where the idea originated.

If people in the warbirds biz are talking about it then I am glad, it's about time too, I will fully support any system they come up with as long as it really does define the aircraft and we don't have these arguments forever more about which pigeon-hole a particular warbird belongs in.

You are right that it will probably end up in court one day, I'm only surprised it hasn't already, several court cases finally sorted out the classic car business to all intents and purposes, so perhaps that is what it is going to take to get some of these Warbirders to stand in line and STOP buggering up our common history.
Our grand-kids will not forgive them for it and I for one would not like to go down in history as someone who twisted history for my own personal gain....financial or otherwise.

It's always the same with people who have something to hide, sounds just like the argument for or against ID cards in this country........If you ain't done anything wrong then you don't have to worry about it, it will all be to your own good in the end.

Get down and get on with it Paul, I don't think we can wait five years for it though, gives plenty more time for many more warbirds to be "data-plated".

Ps; Any chance of setting up a black-list of the "unethicals" while we are at it, if we can find out who the "cowboy builders" are, then we should be able to know exactly who it is that has "been messing with my aeroplane".
