Hi Paul,

For the fantasy composite there is an awfully lot of air between the engines, cockpitframe and nose-cone.

You need a substantial airframe or the remains of one to be able to start. The drawings are also needed in order to get it right. Question is: do these drawings still exist? If enough parts are recovered for use or can be used as patterns then you can start from here. The engines would have to be in a reasonable condition to rebuilt them to static condition using parts from other engines if available.

Problem is of course that the airframe uses a lot of magnesium alloy. Any underwater-recovery would be very difficult regarding the Whirlwinds's construction.

Sounds like a perfect project for Skysport Engineering to me. I sincerely hope that anything resembling a Whirlwind will be put on display in the foreseeable future. Such a beautiful aircraft.

Cees
