Mick,

Just go for it. That is what I am doing now. As you probably know I am working on a Halifax cockpit project. The chances of finding usable fuselageframes are remote so I will make these in wood with aluminium stringers and skinning (like YAM did actually).

I have some copies of factory drawings showing the wireless operators position as well as some cockpit frames. This could give me a start at producing relatively accurate frames in wood. I also have a scale drawing at 1:72 (bentley or Granger, don't know at the moment who drew them but they are said to be based on real drawings, anyway they look very good). It will not be a complete cockpit section but will incorporate the flight engineers station, the pilots station and a seperate wireless station due to the height.

Most fittings (also in case of the Whirlwind reconstruction) are relatively easy to find, but in my case a pilot's seat and throttle control box would be very difficult. As I am doing this together with Ian Foster of 57Rescue we need two of these as well. Who said that warbird enthusiasts are no masochists?

So Mick, when will you start on the Whirlwind fuselage?

Cheers

Cees
