Paul,

I respect your opinion of course, but then again I think that if the decision is taken to restore an airframe, especially such a rare one as the Hampden, it should be done completely. Only that way you can show the future generations what such an aircraft type really looked like. Photographs cannot do that.

I agree that there are always differences of opinion, but don't you think it is a very simple (read cheap) solution to restore only one side. Who can tell if in a few decades from now the unrestored side starts to deteriorate. A lot more effort is needed to arrest corrosion, as opposed to doing it right the first time.

Same goes for Halifax W1048 (here we go again) it is also a very strong exhibit but a fully restored Halifax can really show the grandeur of such an aicraft, not a stripped, covered in red preservative (people think it is rust) dumped on a bed of gravel, airframe.

The Hurricane wreck at the Battle of Britain Museum is a very powerful exhibit but then again there is also a complete example on show nearby. That way you can compare the two.

Just my humble opinion of course

Cees
