Thinking about what I would do on OUR restoration

As I am a bit OK with computers and have a bit of patience (i.e rooting though stuff trying to find info in books etc, and reading though serials agghh) I was wondering that as the skill set for creating nice bits of machined stuff are sadly getting lost in the UK now.. Could some of the machined jobs be done by a computer guided lathe.. If
a: Such machines exist? If so how much?
b: Could be programmed to cut the widget that fits the thingy-bob that is going to win the war??
c: Obviously more stuff that was previously cast, now has to be machined as well?
