A seemingly simple powerplant question

I recently had a visitor ask me a apparently simple question that I realized I hadn't considered before or in fact knew exactly what the answer too. I'll put forth the question too you and see what you all think.

"Why is the engine in the Me 109 inverted?"

Now shedding the model specifics, why are the DB inverted Vees inverted? I know its possible because of the fuel injection but why did they do it? Better oil distribution? Better vision for pilot? Better clearance for mounting guns in nose? I would like to here your opinions and/or if you know a "official" reason.
