You?re quite right.
What I tried to point out was that additional scavenging from the rocker covers was needed which is not the case for an up-right design where those are drained by gravity to the crank case. To point out the obvious, the complete scavenging system had to be inverted.
To the best of my knowledge, none of these wartime engines could sustain any prolonged time of negative G, due to the fact that the oil scavenging system relied upon gravity for the oil to end up at the suction pipe.
