I am sure Pete Rushen will correct me if I am off centre but didn't RR do quite a lot of work to engineer a modification that would allow a single output shaft reduction gear assy to fit the available Griffon 58 series engines fitted to the Shackleton. A number were done I believe to equip the BBMF Mk XIX's, the Rolls Mk XIV, and the Fleet Arm arm Firefly. In effect it was a re-run of the short Griffon 5900 reduction gear housing as used on the Firefly 7. I have in my mind that the cost was absolutely horrendous.
