Richard,

We have a Napier Sabre in our collection which was trawled up from the North Sea. When we received it clearly had the blue colour caused by the salt water corrosion. However the engine block was complete and being a very interesting engine we wanted to preserve it as good as possible.

We hosed it down several times using a steam cleaner. After this the metal shone bright and at least looked like metal again. We then sprayed black automotive corrosive protector all over it (which you usually spray on the underside of your car) giving a beautiful black finish.

Several years later the saltcorrosion inside the block has expanded and causing the block to split in several places. So the result is a big black engine block with thin blue horizontal lines running through the entire block. As dismantling the engine block is impossible we can only slow the desintegration down but not stop it.

Cees
