Cees, you are right about late Lancs being originally fitted with the same fins as the Lincoln. I assumed that being a Mk1 Lanc, these had been retro-fitted to PA474. I didn't know that she was manufactured so late in the war, seems strange that they were still making Mk1's alongside the later Lancs.

I think it was from "Lancman" that i got the info about the Lincoln undercarriages and Shackleton wheels/tyres on PA474. If not, then someone else on the Flypast forum.

The bit about the York wings comes from an interview i read in a magazine (Aeroplane or Flypast, can't remember which) with a former BBMF engineer. He said that PA474 was having problems with her wings (metal fatigue?) at the same time as a York, with servicable wings, was being scrapped. The obvious swap was made and PA474's wings were scrapped with the rest of the York. Can't remember the date of this, but it must have been a long time ago as nobody would scrap a York or Lanc wings these days.

Not a lot of people know that!
Who knows, it might not even be true.
