Hi all,
Something that never seems to leave me alone is the saga of the Russian Lancasters.
Of the 617 en 9 squadron Lancasters which were send to Yagodnik to attack the Tirpitz in 1944, some were forced to land and belly landed in a remote area. A photograph of one of these is published in Lancaste at War.
There are several reports that the Russians recovered/repaired Lancasters and used them till after the war.
I know that some people are busy trying to find out if these Lancasters are still to be found in Russia today.
My question is: these Russian Lancs were they recovered 617/9 squadron examples or did they take force landed examples?
Dave, does your Russian contact know more about this, or am I disturbing a wasps nest.
Cees
