I have had several discussions with various people about this , and Tony has also commented ... without going into too much detail here ... this is part of a mail sent to me from my freind .....
'Of course I hear about Lancasters (and also B-17, B-24, PV-2 or B-33) in
Russia. but book was not printed.
And last three year I prepare three expedition for find one of these
Lancasters. It is true that two Lancs was in Russian service as cargo
airplanes, but both were destroyed in the end of 1940s for scrap metal. Three others were used for spare parts. But one of Lancs was not recovered from the
marsh - was recovery only his radar or one engine.
Many times I make attempt to finnd this last Lancaster, but without
success - very heavy area for work - great forest and very deep marsh! "
The location of this Lancaster is now known to one of the parties.... but not to those ' on the ground ' ..... that's about all i can say at this point ;-0
