Spitfire XIV RM694

Hi all,

Yesterday-evening I was reading the book: A look back over the gate, about the gate guarding spitfires. On of these was high back XIV RM694. Photographs showed that at one time it was fitted with a tailsection as fitted to Merlin-engined types (thus looking more like a prototype XIV). It was reported that the fuselage went to the U.S.

So what is the status of that fuselage and what happened to the wings? I always think it is strange that a complete aircraft gets divided and that its parts are scattered around the world.
