thanks for Your reply. Since I posted I?ve refreshed my memory by re-reading "F8F Bearcat in action" where the Rare Bear record is mentioned. There is also a quote from a service pilot flying F8F-1?s saying that "... the record from a standing start to 10,000 feet stood for many years, ..." (no figures) and my memory obviously mixed these two together.
I?ve seen climb rates varying between 4.400-5.600 ft/min for the F8F-1 and 5.700-6.500 ft/min for the F8F-2 so, there is room for confusion.
I?m still hoping for an answer from Steve!
