Having worked with the OFMC on Ferocious, with Steve Gotts the 361st FG Historian, I can say that the OFMC scheme is based upon how the aircraft would have looked in mid-August 1944 when the groups aircraft would have retained the OD camouflage and the extended yellow nose would have just been added.
Some 'artistic liscence' has been used but on the whole it is a good representation of how the group's aircraft would have looked in mid August 1944.
The photo I think you are referring to would have been taken in late June or early July 1944.
