FAO Mr Coggan, re "Big Beautiful Doll"

As you know Paul I'm all for setting the record straight on warbird IDs, even if many others are not, so it was interesting to read your bit in AM about A68-192/44-72917.

Knowing the story behind A68-192's accident years ago in the Phills I had always wondered if 72917 might be the true ID given the extent of the rebuild that was required.

Just for the record can we now confirm that CA-18 Mk22 Mustang A68-192 does not any longer exist as a survivor, and that it's place in the survivors list has been taken by NA P51D-25NT Mustang 44-72917 ex Phillippines AF, considering that the main cockpit/fuselage section is actually from 72917, with a few bits from 192 thrown in?

In effect 44-72917 was rebuilt to fly with the help of a few bits from the written-off A68-192 and probably a few others, am I correct?

Do you have any pics of 192 after it's accident and could you post them here if so ?

My only misgiving about this is that I know that all Australian built Mustangs when they go to the USA have to adopt the ID of a US built P51 so they can be registered, and with Rob Davies now getting the CAA to correct their books on the ID I hope this doesn't mean that we are going to lose BBD to the US in the near future......please tell me it ain't so???!!

Cheers
Mick
