Personally I'd go to Yeovil with a metal detector over my shoulder.
I hear you thinking: Just another of those stupid stories about buried aircraft........... But there are also stories which turned out to be true.
Years ago I read an article in Aeroplane Monthly about a burial site where dozens of Typhoons had been scrapped. Using ground penetrating radar a large concentration of metal was found and indeed dozens of Typhoon firewalls as well as a lot of cockpit items were found. There was also the rumour of Sabres being buried nearby, but as usual nothing more was heard. Tony Agar found a lot of his Mossie parts at deserted rubbish tips, for example at Little Snoring for instance. In Germany old dumps are being excavated and I have seen major sections being dug up.
These sites are very interesting but not much is heard about them apart from screaming headlines when a supposed aircraft is found, then nothing more........ How about Castle Bromwich (or has it been built over completely), the old RAF dumps scattered aroud the UK, the list goes on and on. The Albemarle cockpitsframes were found in a Quarry in Cumbria in the early eighties, so this proves that where is smoke, there should also be fire.
I challenge you, your comments please
Cees
