Hi Jim not coming to Wanaka this year?

I perhaps should have given more detail. The markings are a solid circle approx 6" in diameter and the colour appears standard ident yellow.

The ones on the pilot's seat are painted so they are "back to back through the plate" and are located right down near the bottom, well below armrest level. Thus the one on the rear of the seat would be totally invisible when the seat is mounted against the bombbay wall, while the forward one would be masked by the pilot himself. Slightly above the forward one is another smaller marking of a yellow outline circle.

The ones on the navigator's head armour are just alongside the perspex viewing panel in said armour and pretty much the same size...all very confusing!

: Hi Denys,
: Obviously you've made some progress sinc
: e I last saw '339 and its seats. I seem to remember that w
: e thought (or was it just Anth?) that they were gas patche
: s which makes more sense than "this seat is armoured" whic
: h would be obvious fairly fast I would have thought. In th
: e latest 'Aeroplane' there is mention of them discovering
: a yellow diamond under the (re) paint of the FAA Museum's
: Corsair and having it chemically analysed to prove it was
: a gas detection patch. Maybe that's an option?
: Is there a patch on the BACK of the pilot's seat? If so, t
: his would probably be visible to the nav who could warn th
: e pilot that there was a CO leak or whatever and to stay o
: n oxygen. If it was only on the front of the seats then it
: would likely be obscured by the crew and their chutes.
: An interesting question.
