I think they wanted to get it flying sometime in the 70's but the original engine was buggered, and no doubt the horrendously expensive prop hub was as well, along with the blades.

I too would like to see it restored as a normal MkXIX one day but until the time that a cache of usable and cheap Griffon 65's are found somewhere we will all just have to marvel at a contra-prop Spitfire Mk XIX, in blue,Ive never seen either, and unless it comes over to Britain sometime I'm never likely to see it at all, or the Seafire 47, but I have a space reserved on my wall for a poster of the Spit when it gets up where it belongs.

Actually, I've wondered for some time whether a contra-prop on a MkXIX would make it less or more fuel efficient or would it be the same, anyone know ?
