Don't know Mick,

But as long as they get it flying then it is OK by me, even if it needs a contraprop to do it until a proper fivebladed Rotol-unit comes available (wonder what the XP-51G will be using up front when it is finished).

Apart from that I think it looks very aggressive with that prop. And if there is an aircraft that has a good chance to beat the time to height record then it would be a Spitfire.

On the subject of warbird racing. I read somewhere that they investigated what the most efficient racer would look like regarding aerodynamic shape, power to weight ratio, etc. The outcome was an aircraft that looked very much like a PR Mk XIX Sptifire!!?

And why not, with the standard of newly built airframes available today, why not build a wholly new light weight Spitfire airframe fitted with a contra-prop (ex Shackleton), clipped wings, souped up Griffon (ex-Shackleton) and a flashy paintscheme (red with white and blue trim perhaps?).

Now that would give the Mustangs and Sea-Furies a run for their money, and it would look fantastic as well.
