I've never seen a Spitfire fly with contra-rotating prop before, so I think it will be cool!

How much does it cost to replace a set of unserviceable wooden blades on the Griffon Spitfire's 5-bladed prop hub? Probably more than the the cost of the Shackelton engine and prop combined... Would you prefer it was a static display instead???? :-)

Relax, it is all a bolt on. It can be undone without ill effect. As for air racing, I think that it is safe to say that air racing has saved more aircraft than it has destroyed. It kept interest in warbirds high at times when these inefficient aircraft were not really collectable for any other reason. In fact there are a few razorback Mustangs, some P-39/P-63's, and at least a YP-47M that owe their existance (and present collectability) to air racing. That being said, the POF Spitfire has not been modified to the point it would be competetive in the Reno Gold race anyhow, and would not be at significant risk even if it was raced. It will also likely be repainted in its original colors.
