I should have been more specific, sorry...

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. I only meant combat aircraft. I would never suggest that anyone should dictate what becomes of an aircraft after they have profited from it.

If a family ever had control, which in the case of Combat Aircraft, I seriously doubt they would, and they sold the aircraft, then by all means the new owners should do what they see fit with it.

I would think anyone who purchases a warbird, with a history, would want to honor the pilot who flew it. I also think the circumstances of the plane crash dictates the way the plane is remembered.

In our case, the plane Dean was killed in, has nothing but negative connected to it. However, had he been killed in battle, I think we would feel differently. There was nothing noble or heroic in the way he died. It was a largely preventable accident.

To see the plane he flew in Italy, when he was awarded the DFC would be a wonderful tribute to him. It would be bittersweet, but still much more fitting.

I agree Scott, dedicating the plane to the pilot would be a fitting memorial to the pilot. I would think this, would satisfy most relatives of Warbird Pilots. Sorry I wasn't more specific before.
