Why couldn't it have been from a Mk X instead of a Mk IX, there were only 16 X's built against 5,663 IX's.....still it'll give me something to do (for a week or more!)wading through the complete list looking for that date or hopefully the name !!!
I recognise the name of Roy Marples but I don't know the Sqn, do you know the Sqn, it would make things a wee bit easier and provide more proof ?
Little bit of history for MkIA K9844......
56th production Spitfire, built at Southampton, first flight by George Pickering 12th Jan 39, to 41Sqn 16th Jan 39, to 64Sqn 11th March 40, lost control, a/c abandoned and crashed near RAF Church Fenton 25th March 40, SOC 5th April.
Talking about Dataplates Tony, I recall you saying you had a P51 plate, do you know the AAF serial number, I'd like to look it up in my big 8thAF book.......purely for my own interest of course ! ?
Cheers
Mick
