Hello Ron,

If you scroll down some pages (this forum really moves fast) you can find my post about the aircraft dump on Biak during the early fifties. In a magazine for veteran soldiers there was an article by a former pilot who was with 321 Squadron based at Biak during september 1951 and april 1953.

He mentions that there were many aircraft dumps (note the plural) and the article had a photograph to prove it showing a dump with many wrecks of B-24's, B-25's, Dakota's, an A-20 and a Catalina.

You are right that we have a large number of ex-Indie veterans over here. In fact in our own organisation we have at least three former veterans who where there during the early sixties. They also saw many dumps or wrecks scattered in the jungle. The remains of Japanese aircraft were still to be found then on the active airfields.

I also read the article in Air Enthusiast about the Martin Mariners. After several accidents there were even Dutch pilots who thought the aircraft was jinxed and refused to fly it. That is probably why they didn't save any for posterity.

Cheers

Cees
