It's very nice of Steve to have that concern. So let me guess at his alternative suggestion? -lol

There is no way, on God's green earth that the Germans will let him have this aircraft. He can also forget about offering his services to raise it, they won't accept it.

In Germany, to raise a wartime aircraft, you have to be either licensed by one of 2 museums, or be Luftwaffe, Marine or Bundeswehr EOD qualified.

Lake Muritz, and it's surrounding areas, are also subject to this ruling. It appears, that the Rechlin museum, is perfectly aware of a number of aircraft in lakes in it's area of responsibility.
However, due to the phenomenal amount of munitions, and the probability of airframes being booby trapped in the aforesaid lakes, recovery is verboten, unless by a Luftwaffe EOD technical team.

One of the reasons, these aircraft might still be underwater, is the that the aforesaid technical team, is in almost constant use year round, due to a small altercation we had with them. Therefore , recovery of aircraft is not a priority, unless they pose a proven environmental threat.

The Germans are aware of a lot of aircraft in lakes. However, in this particular region, u can't just dive in, and help yourself, there are , fortunately or unfortunately rules

So, a great shame he didn't discover the aircraft in Southern Germany... Bavaria has another set of rules too
