upon seeing the burned out fuselage sometime in FlyPast. The early Viking even had the geodetic construction wings. The Valetta wings are indeed very similar including the Hercules engines so a very good looking Wellington could be made. With the necessary resources of course and I don't think that will happen. I think the same debate would start as on YAM's Hally.
I remember that there was a plan in the late eighties early ninenties of building a airworthy replica Wellington bomber fuselage using DC-3 wings. It was just an idea though.
It was mentioned in the book by Clive duCros, would have been a strange aircraft but an amusing one.

: All--Another idea to stir the pot:

: A few years ago there was an unfortunate incident at one
: of the UK's "enthusiast" museums. Some dull-thud firebug
: set an aircraft alight that had been on outdoor display. I
: t was either a Viking or a Valletta (the latter, I think);
: the fuselage was almost totally destroyed. I saw a photo
: of the sad remains...and had a sudden idea.
:
: As Hastings wings are to the Halifax, my understanding i
: s that so are Viking wings to the Wellington (in external
: shape, at least). That photo, sad as it was, made me think
: : what about replicating a late-mark Wellington fuselage t
: o go between the wings of this ruined Valletta? Or, more b
: roadly, of using Viking/Valletta mainplanes from whatever
: source as a starting point for a (perhaps flyable) Welling
: ton re-creation?
:
: (BTW I think that the torched Valletta was eventually re
: surrected using a salvaged fuselage from another example.
: No doubt a number of WIXers will have the story in much mo
: re complete form...)
:
: What think you?
