Do you guys remember less than a year ago when that beautiful KC-97 came up for sale for something like $75K? Six engines included, freshly overhauled control surfaces, etc?
I guess everyone saw where it was purchased, a couple of engines and some parts removed, then scrapped! I swear if I had a measley $75K for such a phenomenal piece of equipment I would have bought it myself. Of all the active museums around the country and the world, I can't believe not a single one showed any interest in preserving this plane.
Am I missing something here? From what I understood, the plane was flown to that location not long before and could have been returned to flying condition without a huge amount of trouble. I though it was ironic that a KC-97 "preservation" society was responsible for the purchase, and subsequent destruction of this aircraft. There can't be too many of them left for public consumption.
