History of Bf 109 wreck

Bf 109 W Nr 20694 was recovered largely intact near Brindisi. (Before you work up your hopes: the date was 1961 and it almost immediately scrapped). A young fighter pilot took pictures and noted the W Nr. and yellow fuselage band.
If anyone can provide details of circumstances of loss, it would be neat to tie-up the story. I have already posted on the GAVS and Luftwaffe Experten message boards.
