Thanks for your prompt reply, which at least points us in the right direction. I tried posting on your 109 Liar forum, but could not find a "send" button. When I finished typing, I hit "return" ... and the message vanished in thin air!
Alas, a good many other rare aircraft were scrapped back then. The same dump contained several P-51s and the now extinct Ambrosini S.7s; P.38s were at Taranto; P-39s served as training aids at Bari, Livorno (then onto Pisa), even here in Rome ... The NC0 school at Caserta had a Cant Z.1007, P-51D (still in USAF markings), S.79, Baltimore, Spitfire and God knows what else. Oh, to have been around back then, with the right connections and a little cash ...
