There are about 2.000 wrecks still to be investigated on Dutch territory (land or water). In about 400 of these human remains are still likely to be found. In the IJsselmeer alone it is estimated that some 750 aircraft came down with many still listed missing to this day (DV286 being just one of these).

When we informed the Municipality of Lelystad about the wreck of the Lancaster they did some research into the number of aircraft wrecks that could still be in their part of the IJsselmeer (half the area of IJsselmeer is theirs, intended to built houses on but you can guess why that hasn't happened). About 240 of them!!! And that is excluding the ones they are not certain off.

Makes you think, doesn't it?
