Here's me..
Richard Woods
I am a 19 year old self confessed aircraft enthusiast. If it is a jet I like it:if it has piston engines even better.I got the bug from my father who spent endless hours taking me round derelict bomber bases in Lincolnshire when I was 2 or 3, then he took me to Conningsby, to see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.I saw the Lanc, and I was smitten, I actually sat down at home, age 3, and wrote aletter to the RAF asking for a Lancaster; I still have it somewhere, maybe I'll post it for a giggle..
Whenever we went on holiday I made up lists of where the aircraft where in that area so I could go find them.At age 6 I did my first recovery, (don't tell the RAF)finding pieces of a Beaufighter on Tetney High Sands in Lincolnshire. I still have a skin panel in my shed.
Now, I am a college student, a member of the Shackleton association, and still I need aircraft, my current projects other than researching aircraft crashes is gaining permission to recover a Royal Navy Corsair II, which crashed in 1944.I have landowners permission and all the paperwork required to recover the remnants of B-29 44-61999 "Over Exposed" which crashed near where I live in Derbyshire, UK, the problem is I have nowhere to put it, and no museum is interested.
I spent my half term looking round Newark for an English Electric Lightning, getting many wierd looks from the locals.
I am now trying to get permits to recover Lancaster NF920, having started this idea two years ago, and to raise enough cash by pleading with parents, washing cars, selling siblings for slavery, in order to get out to some of the aircraft I know about. I have a list of approx. 200 derelict, crashed, or ditched planes of all types, and one day I'm going to get them all out of where they are and back in the sky.
In between all this I fit A-level studies, eating sleeping, and playing Queen at loud volume on my guitar!!
Back soon,
Richard
