Mick - the Spitfire F.21 is owned by No.1 Squadron Association. It was purchased by them in the 1960's from Cardington. She is a display aircraft not a museum piece i.e she is reasonably complete but would require an enourmous amount of work to get her in the air again . Certainly the spars are in a poor way and the engine as such is a 'bitsa'.
The main reason that these late marks are not that desirable from a flying point of view is that they are not the nicest flying machines of the breed. The most desirable from the flying point of view are the MK.V followed by the MK.9. Hence anyone who has got a '9' isn't likely to want
a late mark .
