Its true, Americans don't really have a whole lot of reverence reserved for the Spitfire for a variety of reasons. First, we wrested the colonies from the British, Made it stick in 1812, helped in WWI to get a better look at the Rolls Royce motorcar, we were about to invent motels and drive ins, you get the idea. Things were fine well thru WWII until the advent(importation) of the MG and the Cooper. Turned out that the electical systems of these were controlled by the prince of darkness himself...LUCAS. A more nefarious plot was never unleased. Hoardes of MGs invaded and spread confusion and consternation wherever they went. This country would not seen a similar attack against it until the invasion of the FIAT and, read quick now do not linger...Alfa Romeo!!! So my friends, while we look at the Spitfire lines and see her grace in the air, it is only the look of the wary. We cant help in the kitchen for other reasons, British machines have brought doom on the garage... why bring that to the hangar. Thats the last place we have!!!
In all truth, Americans were not consulted on the sale of MA793, and she was gone before we knew it. The Seafire as well as the contraprop PR19 in Chino and the Amjet Seafire are awaited with great anticipation. The USA loves British Aircraft and if the raw material is here, we will fly them. The Spit's problem, and your good fortune is that she is rare here. For an example of what we do to foreign airplanes we have enough of and LOVE, look at the SEA FURY. This is an airplane we all want in our hangars because it is so right looking and flying. PS Look how many are airworthy in the UK. Once the Spit takes hold, good night!
As always gentlemen, take my posts with humor and sparing that, some Rum..I dont mean to offend
