Hi Charles,
Forgive me, but I've been chuckling to myself over your series of posts. You see, before my oldest son (now 12) could even walk I used to tuck him in one of those backpack devices and work on various restorations (I'm a volunteer). As he got older (and his new brother got tucked in the backpack) I'd take along his bike with the training wheels, and he would practice riding it on the ramp in front of the hangar.
I realize that not all the folks who run the shops and museums may be "child friendly", but if you make the attempt to introduce your child/children to these environments now they will learn what kind of behavior is acceptable and what is not. My kids pretty much got "adopted" as mascots by all the other guys and gals with whom they came in contact in the aviation scene.
You are certainly welcome to disagree with me, Charles; but IMHO you could/should be using your children as the reason to be getting MORE involved, not less...
Best wishes,
Dan (Father of five...all weaned on warbirds!)
