UN and Pacific Recoverys

Posted by Rob Rohr on Tue Aug 20, 2002 09:01:49 AM

Hi All,

First let me say that I'm for complete recovery of all warbirds know matter where they are and who owns them. The best way to preserve are history is to put these a/c out where the next generation can see them. With that said.

Those who do not know the UN is has past a bill that would out-law all aircraft recoverys claim that these are Historical Cultral Items. Know I agree that there Historical but does'nt the UN have more pressing items then worry about what a bunch of wreck chaser do. In order for this to pass 20 of the member nations have to sign. I know that the following Nations have flattly said No. The USA, England, France, Russia.

As for the PNG item I believe that any a/c that can be recoveryed is a good thing know matter how. I've been to PNG and have seen these scrap dealers at work. It does'nt take a P-38 to fall on me to tell you that contrery to what has been printed in a number of areas the PNG goverment is paying these dealers to scrap a/c so they can black-mail peolpe into thinking that all of us who do recoverys pay out-rages prices. I know that a number of a/c are in danger of being lost these included Swamp Ghost the only Bendix Turret B-17 in the world at least three complete Betty bombers, a Pearl Harbor Zero four complete B-24 airframes.

How long are we going to sit back an allow such things to happen. I have been in contact with a number of US elected officials and we are trying to come up with some sort of persure to put on the PNG gov. be it reduction in Aid or other ways. As for other Pacific wrecks most local Govrments are willing to work with you if you sit down and talk.

I know this is going to cause alot of questions about this subject and maybe out of this we all can focus on the real problem. We need an international group to over-see on going a/c recoverys.

Cheers Rob Rohr
