"The Stirling Bomber" website used to have a section about a Stirling that had ditched in a lake/fjord in Norway. The precise location in the lake hadn't been found, but it is known that a Stirling is definitely in there......somewhere.
I think the crew survived, so the aircraft must also have survived the crash in reasonable shape. Given the conditions (icy cold still freshwater) and the condition that other wrecks have come out of water in the region (eg JU88), there must be hope that this Stirling is in relatively good nick. It surprises me that more effort hasn't been made with this.
I can't remember any of the details, as usual! Rumours yes, details/facts no. Although, i am trying to trace the article that my York/Lanc wings story came from.
The website is currently "under construction".
Maybe someone else knows the lake and which Stirling ditched there?
Cheers
Stuart
