Lancaster identification help needed

Hi All,

We have been doing an investigation for the Polish Government regarding the indentification of a Lancaster of 300 sqn which crashed in the IJsselmeer.

Over the years we have picked up loose debris around the wrecksite hoping to identify the identity for 100%. So far we have found sections of fuselageskin with part of the codeletters still fresh. But unfortunately we havn't been able to find positive proof about the serialnumber.

My question is as follows:

Where in the Lancaster airframe can serialnumbers be found?

I do know that the main serialplate is riveted to the frame just behind the cockpit. There are also identificationplates riveted to the tailfin and rudder. Can these provide the information we are looking for?

I have inspected every scrap of aluminum recovered so far without any clue towards establishing the identity once and for all. Perhaps any of the Canadian restoration groups can provide me with some leads where to look.

Thanks in advance

Cees
