The 196's are still there in a reservoir near Riga in Latvia but the authorities won't let them be recovered because it is the main water supply for the city and they're worried about contamination. I know that there was an Australian film crew all ready to go along with the recovery crew but it all fell through when the 'higher ups' decided against it. As for the planes themselves they were sunk at their moorings towards the end of the war and remain in very good condition, now who'se up up for a bit of lake draining ;)
