Cees,

There are over 140 different wrecks up here. This is not far from where I live, so in my spare time I go walking and see what I can come across on the moorland.

At one spot there is the large remains of a B-29, a small aluminium pile that used to be a Lancaster, and a C-47 wing, engines and undercarraige all within 100ft of each other.

There are Blenheims, a Botha, Swordfish, 3 Lancasters, 2 B-24's, the B-29, C-47 (and a jeep so I'm told but I've never seen it) remains of P51D "Sunny VIII", and several Wellingtons in various sizes.

I got permission to fetch the engines and undercart from the B-29 off the moor, but the Peak Park Authorities won't let me despite the fact they don't own the land.

A lot of the stirling went to the RAFM, as there used to be tons left, but I'm not sure how much from the photo is still there. I think the Stirling project guys got a lot.

The B-29 is 44-61999 "Over Exposed". It took the footage of the Bikini Atoll bomb tests and flew through the mushroom cloud later to collect data and samples. You can still see the Operatio Crossroads markings on it as there are several 20ft sections of wing!

Let me know if you are ever in the area and I'll show you round.

Richard
