Hi Rob,

I'm not sure how much remains, it's one of the few wrecks I haven't visited. I'll dig my information out, find the co-ordinates and go and have a peek (Got to do something at weekends!!).

From what I can recall there were two mustangs, Sunny VIII and a wingman, making the first stage of a journey. They encountered severe weather conditions and started a descent, when Sunny VIII hit the hill and blew up. The other Mustang lost 5-6 ft of wing tip and suffered blast damage, but made it back to base.

If its anything like the Defiants, there should be a Merlin and some wing panels at least. There is a Gloster Meteor wreck up there and that went in twice as fast and there is still plenty of it, so you never know.

One good point is it's a bit out of the way compared with other wrecks, only the die-hard hill walkers tend to go up there. I think one bloke went up there in the 80's and came back with a .50 cal!!

Richard
