Simon - I don't think really that your 'head was bitten off'
about the Brian Nicholls Hampden. The simple facts are that Brian acquired the mortal remains from the RAFM store .
The machine had been in storage for many years and nothing had been done to her in any way. Brian was instrumental in 'having a go' at what is an incredibly difficult restoration and as such she is continuing at a somewhat slower pace but progress is being made in the acquisition
of spares in the U.K and abroad. The fact that the RAFM didnt have the foresight to realise that the possibility of a rebuild was viable is entirely down to them .
Regards the Wellington parts - the intention of the sale to the Wellington Gallery (from SYAM) was that the parts would be kept together as one entity and hopefully restored or at least stored indoors. Unfortunately this hasn't happened and I find it incredibly sad that the more positive steps
havn't been taken to safeguard the rear fuselage.
Certainly the are ideas which would quiet happily get her restored but unfortunately that seems not to be on the agenda of the museum.
