In reply top Mediterrenean recoveries........ posted by Cees on Wed Apr 17, 2002 06:42:12 AM
Off the top of my head, and counting only complete aircraft:
P-47: a razorback was located off Furbara, north of Fiumicino airport, circa 1981-82. Two improper recovery attempts resulted in substantial damage and effectively destroyed all value except as "provenance". The aircraft at Vigna di Valle, presently in storage, is from a technical school.
RE.2001: recovered in 1991. Under restoration. Project stalled.
Bf.109G: the Laatzen machine, or at least the basis for it, was recovered from Porto Corallo, in Sardinia. Two wrecks recovered in 1970-80s were stored at Vigna di Valle in very poor condition. Current status unknown.
Macchi C.202: one recovered circa 1995. Left to rot in open storage at Vigna di Valle. Fit for parts recovery and/or provenance.
